Murphy, Robert, 1894-1958

Murphy was an American diplomat who acted as ROOSEVELT’s political representative in North Africa from 1941 to 1943. In this capacity he gathered much useful intelligence and set up an intelligence network in preparation for EISENHOWER’s landings at Casablanca in January 1943. On 22 November 1943 Murphy was appointed member of the Advisory Council to the Allied Control Commission for Italy.
