Leahy, Admiral William, 1875-1959

Leahy was ROOSEVELT’s personal military representative and Chief of Staff from 1942 onwards. His precise duties were never defined but he presided over meetings of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and acted as a liaison officer between that body and the President. He had daily conferences with the President and made sure that the President’s opinions were made known. When Roosevelt died Leahy proved an invaluable adviser to TRUMAN in the last months of the war.
