Fuchida, Commander Mitsuo, 1902-1976

Fuchida was a veteran pilot of the China War who was selected to lead the Japanese air attack on Pearl Harbor. Fuchida coordinated all the preparations for the attack and led the first wave personally: it was unusual to have a single Flight Commander and it was a tribute to his skill and courage. Fuchida would have led the flying operations at Midway but was prevented by appendicitis and his friend, GENDA, replaced him.
