In addition, they shared the services of the 703rd (self-propelled) Infantry Gun Company. During 1943 2/3rd Panzer Regiment contained four companies of Panzer PzMk IV tanks. The panzer-grenadier regiments had no Flak companies. The 304th Panzergrenadiers had no organic infantry gun company and those services were provided by the 703rd Self-Propelled Heavy Infantry Gun Company. The 1/304th Panzergrenadiers and the 3rd and 4th Companies of the reconnaissance battalion were equipped with halftracks. The 38th Panzerjager Battalion had three self-propelled companies. In addition, the 276th Army Sturmgeschutz Battalion was assigned to the division. The 74th Panzer (mot) Observation Battery was assigned to the division. The 273rd (mot) Army Flak Battalion had a staff, staff battery, one light and two heavy Flak batteries. In addition, the 4th Light Battery was a (motZ) 20mm Flak Battery. The feldersatz battalion had five companies.

On 15 January 1944 the 2nd Panzer Division was withdrawn from combat and began refitting and rebuilding. The l/3rd Panzer Regiment was rebuilt and operational as a Panther battalion, on 25 February 1944. The 2/1 st Panzer Regiment continued to be equipped with Panzer PzMk TV tanks. When complete, the regiment was to have 79 Panthers and 101 PzMk IV Tanks. It was rebuilt and equipped as follows:

The division was destroyed in Normandy in August 1944 and only a small cadre remained. The division was reorganized with a panther battalion organized with four companies, each with 14 PzMk V Panther tanks. The second battalion was a mixed battalion, having two companies with 14 PzMk IV tanks and two sturm-geschutz companies, each with 14 sturmgeschutze.
